Programme OverviewThis is one-year, part-time multi-disciplinary Certificate programme delivered by University College Dublin (UCD) is awarded at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications. It is intended for managers, supervisors, safety representatives and others with responsibility for safety and health in the workplace Entry Requirements Successful applicants are expected to have a good level of upper secondary education and to be able to write reports and to have basic computer literacy. Places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Duration The programme is a one-year, part-time study programme organised over 25 weeks, delivered every Friday morning between October and May from 9.00am to 11.00am. Innovative teaching methods Classes are delivered using a direct broadcast satellite-based method of education using television and telephones to teach at a distance, supported by tutorials and texts. Students attend classes in Portarlington while the lecturers themselves are in UCD. Career Opportunities Students who successfully complete the Certificate in Safety and Health at Work will be able to apply their knowledge to communicate health and safety information to peers and supervisors and to advise management on a range of OSH issues in their workplace. The UCD Certificate in Safety and Health at Work is accredited by IOSH as the academic requirement for the Tech IOSH grade of membership. Applicants for membership will also need to be able to demonstrate five years experience at an appropriate level in health and safety practice.
